Title:
New Chief of The Division Of Adult Hematology-Oncology
Body:
I am delighted to announce that Dr. Carmen Allegra will join the faculty of the College of Medicine as the new Chief of the Division of Adult Hematology-Oncology and as the Associate Director for Clinical and Translational Research in the Cancer Center. Dr. Allegra, who spent most of his professional career at the NIH where he served as the Chief of the Medicine Branch of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and Vice-Deputy Director for Extramural Science for the NCI, has a national reputation as a clinician-scientist with special expertise in GI oncology. He has published well over 200 peer-reviewed papers, he has chaired NIH committees and task forces, he is on the editorial board of many of the leading medical oncology journals, he is a consultant to the FDA, and he is the Chair of the Colorectal Disease Committee of the National Surgical Breast and Bowel Project to name but a few of his accomplishments. He will begin at UF on 4/9/07. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Allegra to Gainesville and UF.
